CHELSEA APARTMENT
960 sqft, 2 bed, 2 bath
Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
Completed in early 2025

This project entailed a comprehensive internal refurbishment of an apartment located in a traditional residential block. Key to the design was the creation of a single, expansive open-plan area for kitchen, dining, and living, along with a spacious master bedroom suite all while retaining a second bedroom and separate WC.

Upon entry, a striking large painting draws you into the new open-plan space, which boasts windows on three sides, ensuring balanced daylight throughout the day and a much better connection to the outdoors. We successfully overcame significant technical and building management complexities to realise this incredible outcome.

The core of the brief was to create a calm and tranquil sanctuary for a client seeking to downsize, declutter, and accommodate a life of extensive travel. This was realised through a minimalist design language, featuring simplified architectural details and a carefully chosen palette of soft, elegant materials. The colour palette embraced warm, calm tones for the walls, ceiling, and even the full-length curtains. This subtle backdrop was beautifully contrasted and complemented by varying tones of wood across the flooring, feature media unit, and dining furniture, adding organic warmth and textural interest.

The kitchen was deliberately designed to integrate seamlessly within the open-plan area, rather than dominate it. It showcases high-quality engineering and boasts visually crisp lines that perfectly complement the architectural detailing throughout the apartment.

A significant aspect of the project involved custom joinery, where each piece was meticulously developed in close collaboration with the fabricator. This ensured optimal functionality and efficiency, all while maintaining a clutter-free aesthetic. Given the restricted floor space, every piece was designed to capitalise on the available height, maximising storage and utility.

Finished in Tadelakt, the shower room achieves a streamlined aesthetic, providing a warm, textured backdrop that allows the feature marble vanity to command central attention. The high-quality polished nickel sanitaryware is also designed to visually pop, creating a striking contrast.
